DePaul welcomes Cal Poly, Army, and Dartmouth to XS Tennis Village
CHICAGO, Ill. – DePaul men's tennis will host the second annual George Lott Classic this weekend at XS Tennis Village, welcoming Dartmouth, Cal Poly and Army to compete alongside the Blue Demons.
The invitational honors the legacy of Hall of Fame coach George Lott, who led the Blue Demons from 1969-1991 and helped shape DePaul into a nationally competitive program. Last season, Northern Illinois, Belmont and Eastern Kentucky traveled to Chicago for the inaugural event, where DePaul posted a perfect 3-0 weekend with victories of 5-2, 7-0 and 4-0.
The Blue Demons will face No. 62 Cal Poly on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 9 a.m. CT before returning to the court later that afternoon against Army at 4 p.m. CT. DePaul wraps up the weekend Sunday, March 1 against Dartmouth at 9 a.m. CT. Full match schedules, streaming, and more can be found on the George Lott Classic landing page.
CLASSIC CONTINUITY
Following last year's perfect 3-0 performance at the George Lott Classic, DePaul climbed into the national rankings in consecutive weeks for the first time since 2012. This year's tournament also follows the Blue Demons' first win of the season, a 4-3 victory over Butler. Four players who competed in last year's opening win against Northern Illinois: Pablo Torres Almeida, Andy Hadziabdic, Tobias Leitner and Thomas Giles, were also part of the lineup in the Butler triumph.
TOURNAMENT TRIALS
Since 2020, DePaul holds a 15-13 record in invitational-style events (including postseason), including a 6-8 mark in midseason tournaments.
The Blue Demons' strongest tournament performance in that span came at last year's George Lott Classic, when DePaul posted a 16-2 combined record across the three matches.
