Blue Demons shutout for first time this season
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – DePaul men's tennis (0-4) was blanked for the first time this season, falling 7–0 on the road Sunday morning to Notre Dame (5-1). It marks DePaul's first shutout loss since Jan. 25, 2025, at Dartmouth, which preceded an 8-2 stretch over the next 10 matches; a response this year's group will aim to mirror after an 0-4 start.
Against the Fighting Irish in doubles, DePaul created early pressure at the top spot. Elias Anwar and Thomas Giles fell first at No. 3, followed by a tight 6-4 decision at No. 2 that secured the doubles point for Notre Dame. On court one, Alejandro Gandini and Pablo Torres Almeida were even at 5-5 with the nation's No. 16-ranked duo when play was left unfinished.
Notre Dame then controlled singles, winning in straight sets on five of six courts. The clinching point came at No. 2, where Tobias Leitner dropped a 6-4, 6-2 result. Gandini pushed graduate transfer Perry Gregg at No. 1 before falling 7-5, 7-5.
The tightest match came at No. 5 singles. After a 7-6(5) first-set loss, Andy Hadziabdic responded with a 6-2 second set to force a match tiebreak. He drew level at 9-9 before Llorens claimed the final two points, 11-9, to close the 7-0 team score.
