Junior earns third career weekly honor after clinching over Toledo, Georgetown
CHICAGO – DePaul women's tennis junior Sasha Stula secured her third career BIG EAST Women's Singles Player of the Week honor, the conference announced Monday afternoon. The recognition marks Stula's first consecutive weekly award and comes after she helped lead the Blue Demons to a 2-0 weekend with match-clinching victories over Toledo and BIG EAST foe Georgetown at XS Tennis Village.
Stula opened the weekend by delivering the decisive point in DePaul's 5-2 victory over Toledo, grinding out a three-set win over JJ Scholten on the No. 1 court, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. She followed with a gritty come-from-behind performance against Georgetown's Emily Novikov, rallying from a first-set deficit to secure a 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 triumph and seal the Blue Demons' 4-3 conference victory while keeping DePaul perfect at home this season.
Stula played a key role in keeping DePaul perfect at XS Tennis Village (4-0) and undefeated in BIG EAST action (2-0), as the Blue Demons continue a multi-season run marked by only four home losses in three years.
