DePaul looks to stay unbeaten in BIG EAST action
CHICAGO – DePaul men's tennis returns home to XS Tennis Village on Friday, March 20, hosting BIG EAST rival Xavier (5-11, 1-1 BIG EAST). First serve is set for 1:15 p.m. CT as the Blue Demons look to remain unbeaten in conference action in their return to the Washington Park neighborhood.
Breaking the Spell
DePaul (3-11, 1-0 BIG EAST) enters Friday's matchup looking to snap a five-match skid after opening a stretch of the season with three-consecutive wins over Butler, No. 62 Cal Poly, and Army. The victory over Cal Poly marked the program's first ranked win since 2015 and the third of head coach Matt Brothers' tenure. Six of DePaul's 16 previous opponents are currently nationally ranked, with just one ranked at the time of competition; a match DePaul won.
Series Snapshot
DePaul holds a 12-1 advantage in the all-time series against Xavier and has won seven-straight meetings between the programs. The Blue Demons earned a 4-3 victory in the most recent matchup on April 6, 2025 in Cincinnati. In that contest, DePaul secured the win behind singles victories from Andy Hadziabdic, Thomas Giles, and Tobias Leitner. Xavier's last win in the series came in 2018, a 4-3 decision in Chicago.
Xavier Breakdown
Xavier enters Friday with five wins and a 1-1 BIG EAST mark, but remains winless in true road matches this season. The Musketeers have dropped three straight, including losses to Illinois, Northwestern, and a 7-0 setback against St. John's in their most recent outing. Head coach Ryan Rasco, who took over during the 2022-23 season, has guided the program back into BIG EAST contention, highlighted by a semifinal appearance and 12-win campaign in 2022.
UP NEXT
The Blue Demons head to the Carolinas for a spring break slate, taking on Coastal Carolina and UNCW, March 25 and 28.
