Blue Demons Win Every Set in Victory Over Xavier

Men’s tennis dominates to stay perfect in league play
CHICAGO, Ill. – DePaul men's tennis (4-11, 2-0 BIG EAST) swept Xavier (5-12, 1-2 BIG EAST) 7-0 Friday evening at XS Tennis Village, delivering its most impressive performance of the season. After taking the doubles point, the Blue Demons won all six singles matches in straight-sets to seal the victory.
Demon Doubles
The Blue Demons opened doubles play by securing the point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Alejandro Gandini and Pablo Torres Almeida set the tone with a 6-2 victory at the top spot. At No. 2, Sebastian Medica and Augusto Pardo Cano faced multiple deficits throughout. The duo trailed 4-3, evened it at 4-4, fell behind again at 5-4, and responded once more before pulling ahead late to secure a 7-5 win and clinch the doubles point. On court three, Sven Moser and Thomas Giles also went back-and-forth with their opponents. The pair led 2-1 before falling behind 4-2, and leveled the match at 5-5 before play was halted.
Straight-Set Singles
Sven Moser extended the lead first at No. 6, handling Bode Campbell 6-4, 6-1 to give the Blue Demons a 2-0 advantage. Sebastian Medica followed at No. 2 with a steady 6-4, 6-3 decision, while Thomas Giles added another point at No. 5 with a 6-4, 6-3 victory to push the lead to 4-0 and clinch the team result.
With the match secured, DePaul added on to its lead. Tobias Leitner controlled the opening set at No. 4 and outlasted a tightly contested second-set tiebreak, 6-2, 7-6(9). At the top of the lineup, Alejandro Gandini battled through a first-set tiebreak before closing out a 7-6(3), 6-4 decision at No. 1. Pablo Torres Almeida capped the afternoon at No. 3, earning a pair of tiebreak victories, 7-6(4), 7-6(4), to complete the Blue Demons' monstrous performance.
