Stula, Smith & Nilsson snag hardware after undefeated weekend
CHICAGO – DePaul women's tennis took home both BIG EAST weekly awards after an undefeated trip to Indianapolis, Ind., where DePaul took down conference foes UConn and Butler. For the third time in 2026, the individual effort of Sasha Stula was recognized, granting her the BIG EAST Women's Singles Player of the Week honor. The tandem of Hannah Smith and Clara Nilsson won BIG EAST Women's Doubles Team of the Week as well, for the second time in 2026.
Stula, the junior from Japan, has played all of her dual matches at No. 1 this year, and is currently riding a six match win streak. Within that streak, Stula defeated the No. 43 nationally ranked singles player against Northwestern on Feb. 22, and carried that momentum into this past weekend. She won 6-3, 6-2 in the UConn match, and prevailed 6-2, 6-2 against Butler.
The duo of Smith and Nilsson also captured conference accolades, after going undefeated across the weekend. This marks their ninth consecutive win at No. 1 doubles, making them 9-2 on the season. The senior Smith and freshman Nilsson have formed a quick rapport, helping set the tempo for the Blue Demons throughout the season.
