Men’s tennis delivers comeback victory

CONWAY, S.C. – After falling behind 3-0 on the road, DePaul men's tennis (5-11, 2-0 BIG EAST) stormed back with four-consecutive singles wins to defeat Coastal Carolina (10-7), 4-3, on Wednesday afternoon at Stevens Tennis Complex. The victory marks the Blue Demons' first road win of the season and their first win when trailing 3-0 since Feb. 24, 2023 against Army.

DePaul opened doubles play with a strong showing at No. 2, where Sebastian Medica and Augusto Pardo Cano secured a 6-2 victory. Coastal Carolina responded with a 6-2 win at No. 1 and followed with a win over Thomas Giles and Sven Moser at No. 3 to claim the doubles point.

The Chanticleers carried that momentum into singles, earning straight-set wins at No. 6 and No. 5 to take a 3-0 lead. With first-set leads on all four remaining courts, the Blue Demons settled in and began to turn the tide.

Tobias Leitner got DePaul on the board with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 4, marking his second victory at the position this season. Pablo Torres Almeida followed with a 6-3, 6-4 decision at No. 3, before Gandini leveled the match at 3-3 with a 6-3, 6-4 win at the top spot.

With the match on the line, Medica delivered at No. 2. After dropping the opening set in a tiebreak, he responded with a dominant second set and battled through a tight third. Tied at 4-4 and again at 5-5, Medica won the final two games to defeat Juan Cruz Collardin, 6-7(2), 6-1, 7-5, clinching the 4-3 victory and completing DePaul's largest comeback in three years.
