DePaul heads to the Atlantic coast Saturday
WILMINGTON, N.C. – Looking to close out the weekend with its first set of consecutive road wins this season, DePaul men's tennis wraps up its spring break slate Saturday, March 28, at North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW). First serve is set for 1 p.m. CT at the UNCW Tennis Center along the Atlantic Coast.
Fresh off its first road win of the season, the Blue Demons aim to replicate their Feb. 22-28 stretch when they secured three-consecutive victories. DePaul has seen its results come in streaks of three or more matches this season, a trend it looks to push in a positive direction as it sits at 5-11 overall. The Blue Demons remain unbeaten in BIG EAST play at 2-0, highlighted by a 7-0 sweep of Xavier in their most recent conference matchup on March 20.
March Madness
DePaul opened the week with a 4-3 win over Coastal Carolina on March 25, marking its first victory after trailing 3-0 and its largest comeback in three years. The win also continued a strong run of outdoor success during spring break trips, as the Blue Demons have now earned at least one outdoor victory each year since 2023 (North Carolina), 2024 (Florida), 2025 (Mississippi/Alabama), and 2026 (South Carolina). DePaul will look to add another North Carolina win to that list on Saturday.
Medica Magic
Sebastian Medica delivered the clinching point against Coastal Carolina and continues to build momentum heading into the weekend. The sophomore holds a 9-5 dual singles record and enters Saturday on a three-match win streak. Medica has competed across four lineup positions (No. 2-5), including a 2-0 mark at No. 2 and a 3-1 record at No. 5. DePaul is 2-0 in matches where he plays at the No. 2 spot.
Seahawk Slate - UNCW Notes
The Seahawks enter Saturday having won five of their last six matches, including three sweeps and a ranked victory over No. 72 Kennesaw State on March 13. UNCW also pushed No. 72 Texas Tech and No. 64 Wichita State to 4-3 decisions, falling just one point short in each contest.
UNCW holds a 7-8 overall record and is 2-0 in CAA play. The Seahawks are led by 19th-year head coach Mait DuBois, a 10-time conference champion and two-time ITA Regional Coach of the Year. Lukas Steffen leads the team with a 9-4 dual singles record, while Alex da Gabriele and Brady Hussey share the team lead with five doubles wins each. UNCW also features the No. 70-ranked doubles pair of Jordi Domenech and da Gabriele.
Up Next
The Blue Demons return to BIG EAST play next weekend, traveling to face Georgetown and Villanova, April 3–4, in Washington, D.C., and Villanova, Pa.
