Leitner Earns Singles Victory in DePaul Setback

Men’s tennis goes 1-1 in spring break action

WILMINGTON, N.C. – DePaul men's tennis dropped a 6-1 match to UNCW Saturday at the UNCW Tennis Center, finishing its spring break stretch 1-1. Tobias Leitner delivered the lone point for the Blue Demons with a comeback win in singles.

DePaul split the doubles courts, but the Seahawks secured the opening point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Sebastian Medica and Augusto Pardo Cano delivered a strong 6-2 victory at the No. 2 position, though UNCW closed out the point with a 6-4 decision on court three.

In singles, the Seahawks quickly extended their lead with straight-set wins at No. 1 and No. 5 to move within one point of clinching. A tight battle unfolded on the remaining courts, with Sebastian Medica forcing a deciding super-tiebreak at No. 2 before falling 10-6, and Pablo Torres Almeida pushing to a third-set tiebreak at No. 3.

Tobias Leitner put DePaul on the board at the No. 4 spot, bouncing back from a first-set loss to claim a 1-6, 6-4, 10-7 victory. UNCW ultimately sealed the match with a straight-set win at No. 6 before the Seahawks closed out the final court at No. 3.
