Blue Demons down Hoyas Friday afternoon

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Continuing its dominance over a familiar BIG EAST foe, DePaul men's tennis (6-12, 3-0 BIG EAST) delivered a commanding 5-2 defeat of Georgetown in the nation's capital. The victory marks DePaul's fourth win in its last five meetings with the Hoyas and extends the Blue Demons' all-time series lead to 11-3.

After dropping five-straight road matches to open the season, DePaul has now claimed two of three road wins over its last three outings, with both victories coming in BIG EAST play.

DePaul seized control early in doubles, with Alejandro Gandini and Pablo Torres Almeida rolling to a 6-1 win at No. 2. Thomas Giles and Sven Moser followed with a 6-4 decision at No. 3 to clinch the doubles point, despite Georgetown taking the top court.

The Blue Demons wasted little time in singles. Gandini set the tone with a dominant 6-3, 6-1 win at the top spot to put DePaul ahead 2-0. Medica kept the momentum going at No. 2, dropping the second set in a tiebreak before regrouping and closing it out in three to push the lead to 3-0. Georgetown got on the board at No. 6, where Pardo Cano fell in a tight three-setter, but any hope of a Hoya rally was snuffed out when Moser battled back from a set down at No. 5 to clinch the victory. Georgetown's Jonah Hill claimed the next point at No. 4 over Leitner before Torres Almeida rounded out the afternoon with a gritty three-set win at No. 3, saving a tiebreak against Lamm-Bocharov to close it out.
