DePaul visits Georgetown and Villanova this weekend
D.C./VILLANOVA – Set for its first BIG EAST road tests of the season, DePaul men's tennis travels east to face Georgetown and Villanova, April 3-4. The Blue Demons (5-12, 2-0 BIG EAST) enter the weekend with a perfect mark in league play, highlighted by a 7-0 sweep of Xavier and a 4-3 victory over Butler. Action begins Friday against the Hoyas at 10 a.m. CT, followed by a 1:30 p.m. CT match at Villanova on Saturday. Live results are currently unavailable.
DePaul opened its spring break slate with a 4-3 win over Coastal Carolina on March 25, marking the program's first victory after trailing 3-0 and its largest comeback in three years. The result also continued a strong trend of outdoor success during March road trips, as the Blue Demons have earned at least one outdoor win in four consecutive seasons.

Blue Demons by the Numbers
- Sebastian Medica leads the team with a 9-6 dual singles record and is the only Blue Demon with wins on four or more courts.
- Alejandro Gandini has tallied seven victories at the top singles position, while Pablo Torres Almeida adds four wins at No. 3 to round out the consistent top three.
- DePaul's top two doubles pairings, Gandini/Torres Almeida along with Pardo Cano/Medica, have found their rhythm, combining for four and six wins, respectively.
- Under head coach Matt Brothers, DePaul has posted a winning home record every season. A win in either of its final two home matches would extend that streak to nearly two decades.
Hoya Happenings
- DePaul holds a 10-3 all-time advantage over Georgetown, including wins in each of the last three regular-season meetings.
- The Hoyas graduated standout seniors Jake Fellows and Akira Morgenstern, who combined to anchor the top two singles positions for much of their tenure on the Hilltop.
- Georgetown returns Arthur O'Sullivan, a four-year mainstay in the lineup who figures to lead the Hoyas' rebuilt singles order.
- The Hoyas have collected wins over Howard (6-1), Butler (6-1), Marquette (6-1), Saint Joseph's (7-0), and a tight 4-3 victory over Loyola Maryland.
- Freddy Mesmer is in his fifth season at the helm after being named head coach in 2021. A Maryland native and Virginia Tech alumnus, Mesmer brings a deep personal connection to Georgetown; his grandfather, Fred Mesmer, was part of the inaugural class of the Georgetown Athletics Hall of Fame and served as the Hoyas' men's basketball coach from 1931-38.
'Nova Notes
- DePaul holds a 6-0 all-time advantage over Villanova, maintaining a perfect mark in the series.
- The Wildcats opened the season with wins over Howard (5-2), Wagner (4-3), Colgate (4-2), Coppin State (7-0) and Loyola Maryland (6-1).
- Villanova is led by head coach Brad Adams, now in his 19th season at the helm. A 2003 graduate and former team captain, Adams has been a steady presence since taking over the program in 2006.
- Under Adams' leadership, the Wildcats have produced five All-BIG EAST selections and 13 weekly conference award winners. He was also recently honored with the Villanova Tennis Endowed Fund, marking the program's first seven-figure gift and one of the university's few endowed head coaching positions.
