Men’s tennis falls in consecutive outdoor matches

HOUSTON, Texas – DePaul men's tennis wrapped up its weekend in Houston on Friday evening, dropping a 6-1 decision to UAB (4-6) at George R. Brown Tennis Center.

The Blue Demons (3-9, 1-0 BIG EAST) closed the trip with a strong individual performance from Pablo Torres Almeida, who rallied for a three-set comeback victory at No. 2 singles. After falling in the opening set, Torres Almeida responded with dominant play down the stretch to defeat Flynn 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 and secure DePaul's lone point.

UAB secured the doubles point behind wins on courts two and three. Sebastian Medica and Augusto Pardo Cano fell 6-3 at No. 2 doubles, while Sven Moser and Thomas Giles dropped a 6-3 decision at the third court. The top court pairing of Alejandro Gandini and Torres Almeida was narrowly trailing 5-6 when play was halted.

The Blazers carried that momentum into singles play with wins at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 to quickly build a 4-0 advantage. Alejandro Gandini battled at the top position before falling 6-3, 6-4 on court one. UAB sealed the team result at No. 4 singles, where Tischner edged Sebastian Medica in a tight third-set tiebreak, 2-6, 6-3, 12-10. Pablo Torres Almeida closed the evening with DePaul's lone point at the second court, rallying for a comeback win over Flynn.
