Women’s Tennis Secures No. 2 Seed in BIG EAST Championships

Blue Demons travel to Cayce, S.C. on Wednesday
CHICAGO – DePaul women's tennis earned the No. 2 overall seed in the BIG EAST Championships, setting themselves up for a bye into the quarterfinals against either Butler or Creighton. The quarterfinal match will be held on Friday, April 17 at 12 p.m. CT at Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center in Cayce, S.C.
The first round of the tournament begins on Thursday, April 16, with the championship taking place on Sunday, April 19, at 12 p.m. CT. Monday, April 20 serves as a rainout date for potential inclement weather.
DePaul faced both Butler (5-17, 0-4 BIG EAST) and Creighton (13-6, 2-2 BIG EAST) in league play this year, winning 6-1 in Indianapolis and 7-0 in Chicago, respectively. The Blue Demons concluded their regular season with a 10-10 record, finishing 6-1 in conference play. The 6-1 BIG EAST tally matches DePaul's second-best conference regular season finish in head coach Marisa Arce's tenure.
Roberta Sechi and Sasha Stula have both ended the season well, entering the tournament 7-3 in each of their last 10 singles matches. Hannah Smith and Clara Nilsson have paced DePaul in doubles wins throughout the season, netting an 11-8 record, all on court No. 1.
