Buckeyes use four-goal first half to remain unbeaten

COLUMBUS, Ohio – DePaul men's soccer dropped a 6-0 decision to Ohio State on the road Monday evening. The Blue Demons could never gain control of the match as the Buckeyes maintained a healthy possession advantage and scored four first-half goals, three of which came after a 38th-minute red card left DePaul a man down for the final 50-plus minutes. DePaul falls to 0-1-1 on the season, while Ohio State improves to 2-0-0.

How It Happened
Seven minutes went by before the first shot of the match was fired, a low effort from Ohio State that DePaul goalkeeper Hayden Vostal gathered easily. The Buckeyes broke through in the 10th minute after a Blue Demon foul just outside the box drew a yellow card. Junior defender Martin Wurschmidt buried the ensuing free kick to make it 1-0.

The Buckeyes, maintaining a hold on the possession battle, extended their lead in the 29th minute, with a ball sent in from the right flank for Isaiah Chisolm to head home from the doorstep to take a 2-0 lead.

Gavin Netzel was issued a red card in the 38th minute, forcing the Blue Demons to play with 10 men for the remainder of the contest, and Ohio State took advantage scoring on a rebound in the box to make it 3-0. Four minutes later, the Buckeyes added another tally as Ryan Hannosh drove on the end line and beat Vostal far post to widen the advantage.

Ohio State outshot DePaul 10-0 in the first 45 while earning five corners and limiting the Blue Demons to zero.

Feet tangled in the box awarded Ohio State a penalty kick in the 54th minute for Chisolm to put it away to make it a 5-0 ballgame.

DePaul's best chance came in the 81st minute as Mason Kutch received the ball 12 yards out and served an uncontested shot on frame before Ohio State's keeper made a one-hand save.

In the waning moments of the matchup, OSU put away a rebound to move in front 6-0
