Blue Demons Visit UIC Thursday in Crosstown Clash

Kickoff set for 7 p.m. from Flames Field
CHICAGO – DePaul men's soccer returns to the pitch Thursday, Sept. 3 for its second of two-straight matchups against intra-city foes when it takes on UIC at Flames Field. First touch is set for 7 p.m. with live streaming carried on ESPN+.
Demon Doings
The Blue Demons are 1-1-2 on the 2026 campaign and are in search of their first road victory of the season Thursday. Last time out, DePaul battled back from a two-goal deficit to draw on the road at Loyola 3-3 Sunday night at Loyola Soccer Complex. After the Ramblers came out on the front foot, DePaul got a goal back in the closing moments of the first half off the boot of freshman Quinn Bedwell before Noeh Hernandez equalized in the 55th minute. Loyola reclaimed the lead in the 82nd minute, but the Blue Demons answered right back in the 83rd on a laser of a goal from Tyler Flowers.
Ten different Blue Demons have had goal involvement with Hernandez headlining the offensive attack with three goals and an assist. Freshman forward Mason Kutch has a pair of goals and an assist to his credit, while junior midfielder Daniel Hickiewicz owns four assists through the first four matches of the season, a figure good for third in Division I.
DePaul's 12 assists this season rank ninth nationally.
Climbing the Ladder
After netting a goal against Loyola, Hernandez moved to 10th all-time on DePaul's career points list. The senior owns 50 points in his 50 appearances for the Blue Demons. Hernandez has scored 19 goals and dished out 12 assists during his time in Lincoln Park and needs three points to tie Antonio Aguilar (2009-12) for ninth in the record book.
Scouting UIC
The Flames head into Thursday's match 0-3-1 and have dropped two-straight including a 2-1 setback to Northern Illinois Sunday afternoon on the road. UIC has managed a balanced attack with four different goal scorers accounting for its four goals this season. After going 10-3-5 a season ago, the Flames welcomed back 15 letterwinners including four of their top six goal scorers while welcoming in 10 newcomers. As a team, UIC is outshooting opponents by an average margin of 8.5 per game. Head coach Sean Phillips is in his 17th season leading the program.
Series Stuff
Thursday marks the 37th meeting between the two programs with the Blue Demons going unbeaten (3-0-1) in the last four matchups. The Flames hold an 18-14-4 edge in the all-time series including an 11-5-2 margin on their home pitch. A season ago, the two sides battled to a 1-1 draw at Wish Field with Keagan Pace netting the equalizer in the 86th minute to earn a point for the home team.
