Roe, Abdullahi set to make season debuts in Chicago

CHICAGO – DePaul cross country returns to action Friday, Sept. 25, for the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational to give the team its first opportunity of the season to race in Chicago at the Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course.

The Blue Demons will compete close to home for the first time this season with the women's open 6K scheduled for 10:20 a.m., followed by the men's open 8K at 11 a.m.
Â
Friday's meet will also mark the 2026 season debuts of Tessa Roe and Mohamed Abdullahi, adding to the Blue Demons' lineups as the season moves toward October.

DePaul enters the meet following a historic performance at the National Catholic Championships in South Bend, Ind., where both the men's and women's teams earned runner-up finishes for the first time in program history.

Following her performance in South Bend, senior Kalina Urbaniak was named BIG EAST Athlete of the Week, earning the honor for the first time in her career.

Urbaniak led the women's squad with a ninth-place finish, clocking a personal-best 17:39.4 in the 5K to move to No. 3 on DePaul's all-time list. Freshman Ava Helmbrecht also entered the program's top 10 with a personal-best 18:09.5, while Isabella Orozco recorded a personal best of 18:19.3.

On the men's side, freshman Alex Krieg continued his strong start to his collegiate career after claiming the individual title at the season-opening Huskie Opener. The Blue Demons combined for five all-time top-10 performances across the men's and women's races in South Bend.

The Blue Demons return to action Friday, Oct. 16 at the Under Armour Pre-National Invitational, hosted by Indiana State in Terre Haute, Ind.
