Matt Johnson joined the DePaul staff in June 2021 as an associate director of sports performance. In his current role, Johnson oversees and directs all facets of the sports performance program for the men's basketball team.
Johnson joined the DePaul men's basketball program after working with the Chicago Bulls for the last nine years, including five as head strength and conditioning coach. After first joining the Bulls in 2012, Johnson began leading the strength and conditioning department in July 2016. He first served as an intern with the Bulls for the 2012-13 season before being named assistant strength and conditioning coach in August 2013. Johnson led all facets of the strength and conditioning program including strength training sessions, conditioning workouts and mobility drills while also handling personnel testing, player monitoring data and nutrition programs.
He graduated from UW-La Crosse in August 2011 with an undergraduate degree in exercise and sport science before earning his graduate degree in human performance in December 2012. Johnson also has professional experience at UW-La Crosse and Wisconsin. Additionally, he was a strength and conditioning consultant during the summer of 2018 for Nike Basketball with the elite high school programs.
