Scott Midgett was named assistant jumps coach for DePaul track and field in October 2021. In this role, he has coached multiple record-setting performances and guided athletes to conference titles and national-level competition.
During the 2024-2025 season, Coach Midgett guided the high jump group to strong performances at both the indoor and outdoor BIG EAST Championships. Patrick Diakite earned a podium finish indoors, placing 3rd with a clearance of 2.01m. On the women’s side, Eveline Reno placed fourth at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships with a clearance of 1.65m and followed up with a fifth place finish outdoors at the same height. Amelia Barrington also delivered consistent results, finishing fifth indoors with a height of 1.60m and sixth outdoors with the same clearance, rounding out a successful season for DePaul’s high jump squad.
In the 2023-24 season, Midgett led Jaiah Hopf, Alicia Jones, Eveline Reno, and Jordyn Showers to the program’s highest-ever event squad ranking, finishing sixth nationally in women’s triple jump with an average mark of 12.40m. Hopf, under Midgett’s guidance, set an all-conditions school record of 13.08mw (+2.8m/s) that season after qualifying for the 2023 Toyota USATF U20 Outdoor Championships with a school-record 12.49m jump as a freshman.
During the 2022 and 2023 outdoor seasons, Midgett coached Tori Carroll to back-to-back BIG EAST long jump titles, making her one of seven Blue Demons in history to win multiple gold medals in the same event. Carroll also set three school records under Midgett’s leadership, including a wind-legal outdoor best of 6.38m.
As a volunteer high jump coach from 2017-2019, Midgett helped Caroline Muller set the DePaul indoor school record (1.75m) along with two outdoor records (1.72m, 1.74m).
Altogether, Midgett has coached two BIG EAST champions, five NCAA Preliminary Round qualifiers, and has overseen 14 school record-breaking performances.
A Brooklyn, N.Y., native, Midgett was a high jumper for DePaul from 2013 to 2017, contributing to the Blue Demons’ BIG EAST indoor and outdoor team titles in his senior season. He graduated from DePaul in 2017 with a degree in Communication and Media Studies.
