Joe Wilhoit

Joe Wilhoit was a stand-out three-sport athlete during his time at DePaul where he played baseball, football and track. Wilhoit went on to a successful professional career, including an appearance in the 1917 World Series where he played for the New York Giants. In 1917 he played for the Giants, Pittsburgh Pirates and Boston Braves where he hit .285 as an outfielder.
In his four-season Major League career, Wilhoit batted .257 with three home runs and 73 RBIs in 283 games. He also scored a total of 93 runs and had 23 doubles, nine triples, 28 stolen bases and a career on-base percentage of .323.Â
Wilhoit held a 69-game hitting streak while playing for the Wichita Jobbers of the Western League from June 14 - Aug. 19 1919. During that hitting streak, Wilhoit went 153-for-297 with a .515 batting average including four home runs, nine triples and 24 doubles.Â
A native of Hiawatha, Kan., Wilhoit died at the age of 44 in Santa Barbara, Calif.
