Gary Garland-Houston played for the DePaul men's basketball team from 1975-79, helping lead the Blue Demons to three NCAA Tournament appearances and the 1979 Final Four. Garland-Houston earned NCAA Tournament All-Region honors in 1978 and 1979 and was the West Regional MVP in 1979. To cap off his outstanding senior season, he was named honorable mention All-American in 1979.Â
Garland-Houston finished his career with 1,214 points and 385 career assists. One of his most memorable games came in 1978 where he clinched a game-winning 22-foot buzzer-beater at Notre Dame.Â
Garland-Houston was drafted in the second round of the 1979 NBA Draft by the Denver Nuggets where he would be appear in 78 games, averaging 14.2 minutes played.Â
Following his basketball career he pursued a music career with his half-sister, Whitney Houston, touring several times as a background singer and vocalist.Â
