Blue Demons Stumble Against Billikens

CHICAGO - Four goals by three Billikens and a stingy defense put visiting Saint Louis over DePaul, 4-0, on Friday afternoon. The Blue Demons were able to get off eight shots as Saint Louis scored twice in each half. With the loss, DePaul drops to 7-5 overall and 2-3 in Conference USA play while Saint Louis improves to 10-3 and 4-1.
Both teams played to a standoff until the 34th minute when Christie Cigno scored the first of her two goals. The eventual game-winner came off a header from the right side that she took from Jenny Kehl at 33:30.
Just under 10 minutes later, the Billikens struck again as it was Kehl scoring at 41:45. She took a pass from Jamie Perry and put it past DePaul keeper Lindsey Deason for Saint Louis' second score.
In the second half, Perry found the net at 51:00 after she lobbed it over keeper Megan Pekala. Cigno scored the final Billiken goal in the 83rd minute as she headed in a corner kick from Perry.
Deason and Pekala combined for four saves while giving up a season-high four goals. All five of DePaul's losses this season have been shutouts. The Blue Demons were outshot by Saint Louis, 12-8, with Julianne Sitch taken a team-high three shots.
DePaul goes on the road for a Sunday afternoon match at Charlotte. Kickoff with the 49ers is set for Noon Eastern time. The last two home matches of the season are next weekend as DePaul hosts Louisville and Cincinnati.
