CHICAGO – Freshman Margo Sackmaster registered her first career multi-goal game and Julianne Sitch added a third goal as the women’s soccer team knocked off Louisville, 3-0, Friday afternoon. A number of DePaul records fell as DePaul improved to 8-6-0 and 3-4-0 in Conference USA play while Louisville drops to 5-8-1 and 1-4-1.
The eighth victory for the Blue Demons set a new single-season program-best win total as did their 22nd goal scored. The 1999 squad won seven matches while scoring 20 goals. Sitch set a new program record with her 17th point of the season. She broke the old single-season mark of 15 points by Maria Martinez in 1997.
The first half was a stalemate as DePaul outshot Louisville, 4-0. The lone first half goal by Sackmaster came off a long cross from Amber Prindle. Prindle served the ball into the box from the right side that Sackmaster headed past Louisville keeper Lindsay Seibert at 30:12.
Seven minutes after the halftime break, Sackmaster struck again. This time it was off a corner kick from Sitch. Sitch served the ball across the box and it was headed by Amy Witt. Sackmaster took Witt’s header and sent it home for her fourth goal of the season.
The final DePaul goal came in the 63rd minute when Sitch took a pass from Krissy Seberhagen, went around a Louisville defender and fired it into the left side of the net. For Sitch, it was her seventh goal of the season. Of the 22 Blue Demons goals, 13 have been scored by freshmen.
Despite not registering a shot in the first half, Louisville kept DePaul keeper Lindsey Deason busy in the second stanza as she made six saves. The sixth shutout by the Blue Demons set a new school record, surpassing the five in 1999.
The Blue Demons wrap-up the home portion of the schedule with a Sunday afternoon match against Cincinnati. DePaul’s four seniors will be honored prior to the match that is scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff at Wish Field.
