CHICAGO – Playing in their last match of the regular season at Wish Field, the DePaul women’s soccer team lost, 2-0, to the visiting Cincinnati Bearcats. The Bearcats scored a goal early in the each half as they outshot DePaul, 10-7. With the loss, DePaul drops to 8-7-0 overall and 3-5-0 in Conference USA action while Cincinnati improves to 11-2-2 and 5-0-2.
In the ninth minute of the match, Cincinnati’s Tasha Wagner drove down the right side of the penalty and fired a shot high into the left corner past DePaul keeper Lindsey Deason. Lisa Stephens and Tiana Oliver were credited with assists after working the ball around and finding Wagner.
The score remained at 1-0 until the Bearcats struck again just over seven minutes into the second stanza. Off a quick start on a corner kick, Wagner fed Oliver who took two dribbles into the box and found the back of the net. Wagner’s goal was the last of the match at 52:26.
DePaul goes on the road next weekend with a non-conference match at Valparaiso at 1 p.m. Internet audio will be available for the match with the Crusaders. Next Sunday, the team travels to East Carolina for a Noon Eastern time match against the Pirates.
