Blue Demons Roll Over Northern Illinois

DeKALB, Ill. - The women's soccer team notched their 10th win of the season, a program first, on Wednesday with a 4-1 decision over Northern Illinois. Four different players scored for the Blue Demons as they improved to 10-7-1 on the season.
The Huskies got on the board first as Tiffany Anderson scored at 15:57 for the early 1-0 advantage. DePaul answered less than six minutes later as Claire Sharkey found the back of the net for her first goal of the season. Julianne Sitch started the scoring with a corner kick that Sharkey tapped into the net at 21:32.
The score remained at 1-1 for the first half. DePaul didn't waste any time as Ogonnaya Dotson-Newman scored the eventual game-winner at 46:12. Sharkey took a shot that hit the crossbar. Dotson-Newman was there and headed the rebound past Northern Illinois keeper Leigh Steigerwald.
Margo Sackmaster and Sitch sealed the win with a pair of goals in the final 20 minutes. Sackmaster gathered a rebound off a Sitch shot and knocked it in in the 81st minute. For Sackmaster, it was her sixth goal of year while Sitch was credited with her second assist of the match and fifth of the season. At 86:55, Sitch finished the scoring for the afternoon with her eighth goal of the season on a penalty kick.
With the victory, the 2002 squad becomes the first team in the program's seven-year history to win 10 matches. The Blue Demons will shoot for their 11th win of the season on Saturday night at Marquette. Kickoff for the season finale is set for 6 p.m. in Milwaukee.
