MACOMB, Ill. - The DePaul women’s soccer team tied a program-best with their seventh win of the season on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Demons defeated Western Illinois, 2-1, to improve their overall record to 7-4-0. The win also bettered the six victories set last season.
DePaul outshot Western Illinois, 20-3, in the first half and scored their two goals in a span of just over a minute. The first score of the afternoon came on a header by Amy Witt. Witt’s first career goal was off a cross from Colleen Ahearn at 24:50. Just 71 seconds later, the Blue Demons struck again as Krissy Seberhagen scored an unassisted goal at 26:01. The score was Seberhagen’s third of the season.
From that point, the match was scoreless. DePaul has numerous opportunities as they total 30 shots in the match. Western scored in the 69th minute, but the DePaul defense locked down the Westerwinds for the 2-1 final. Lindsey Deason, Lauren Geiger and Megan Pekala combined for five saves in the match while allowing the one Western Illinois goal.
“I’m really proud of the team today. Today’s win was significant because we bettered last season’s win total and tied the program’s top win total set in 1999,” said head coach John Wilson. “We’re looking forward to the conference weekend coming up with matches against Saint Louis and Charlotte.”
The Blue Demons will play the Saint Louis Billikens on Friday at Wish Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. On Sunday, DePaul plays at Charlotte with a noon Eastern time start.
