Ryan and Guzman Take First at Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. - Carey Ryan started his outdoor season right where he left off in the indoor campaign by winning the hammer throw by 20 feet at the Adidas Raleigh Relays last weekend. Frank Guzman also took home a first place in the shot put by outdistancing 67 other athletes.
Ryan’s toss of 67.61 meters (221-10) automatically qualified him for the NCAA Championships in June. Following Ryan in the hammer throw competition were Matt Pagliasotti of Javelin USA in second place at 61.41m (201-06) and Sal Gigante of North Carolina at 60.92m (199-10) in third place.
Guzman won in the shot put competition for the second consecutive weekend with a throw of 18.05 meters (59-02.75). His distance of 18.05m surpassed his school record of 17.73m set last weekend when he won the same event at the UNC Classic in Chapel Hill.
Siddiqu Muhammad ran a 54.16 in the 400-meter hurdles to place 25th overall. He finished third in his heat as did Aaron Cherrington at 56.94. Cherrington’s time placed him 60th overall. Andrae McPherson posted a time of 15.20 in the 110-meter hurdles to place fourth in his heat and 40th place overall.
