Men's Track Leads C-USA Championships After Day One

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Carey Ryan broke his own championship meet record in the hammer throw to lead the men's team in the first day of the C-USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Louisville. Chris Birchall also had a strong showing as he finished second in the 10,000-meter run.
Ryan's best throw of the day was measured at 64.81 meters (212'7") to break the record he set in last year's meet. The senior has won the league's hammer throw championship three consecutive seasons.
Birchall placed second in the 10,000 with a time of 30:54.68 as Herbert Mwangi of TCU won the event in 29:43.67.
Jarrod Jahnke also scored team points for the Blue Demons as he placed fifth in the hammer throw. His distance of 52.35 meters (171'9") was just short of Josh Brannen of Louisville at 52.52 meters (172'4"). Rob Reed was 13th in the competition at 37.89 meters (124'4").
