Women's Track Places 11th at C-USA Championships

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Erin Moffett and Montia Gardner led the DePaul women’s track and field team at the 2002 Conference USA Championships in Louisville. Moffett earned a pair of top four finishes while Gardner had two top eight places in the throwing events.
Moffett placed second in a fast 3,000-meter steeplechase. The top three finishers all finished under last year’s record as Moffett posted a personal-best time of 10:34.34. Teammate Jessica Karlin came in sixth place in the steeplechase with a time of 11:02.50. Moffett came back to finish fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a season-best 17:24.10.
Gardner just missed winning the discus with a distance of 47.06 meters (154’5”). South Florida’s Dayana Octavien won the competition with a championship-record distance of 48.10 meters (157’10”). Her eight place in the hammer was the top finisher of three throwers for the Blue Demons as Susan Stoffel was 14th and Megan Greeley placed 17th. Gardner's throw of 46.68 meters (153'2") was her second-longest distance of the outdoor season.
Megan Greeley and Diana Runnels tallied a pair of fifth-place finishes in their events. Greeley’s throw of 40.09 meters (131’6”) was fifth in the javelin and Runnels ran a 55.49 in the 400-meter dash. She qualified for the finals with a time of 55.56 in the prelims. Katie Sullivan also earned points for the Blue Demons as she was sixth in the high jump with a height of 1.64 meters (5’4.5”).
