Guzman and Ryan Set to Compete in NCAA Championships

CHICAGO - Frank Guzman and Carey Ryan will represent DePaul University at the 2002 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Baton Rouge, La. this weekend. Guzman will compete in the shot put while Ryan will go for the hammer throw national championship. The four-day meet begins on Wednesday at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium on the campus of Louisiana State University.
Ryan will be competing on the opening day of the NCAA meet in the hammer throw. The senior is ranked fifth in the country heading into the championships with a season-best distance of 68.26 meters (223'11"). He will be looking to improve on his sixth-place finish at last year's NCAA's at the University of Oregon. As a sophomore, Ryan was 15th at the Outdoor NCAA Championships.
Guzman is making his first appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships and is ranked 17th in the country. He will compete on Saturday evening in one of the championships' last events. Guzman set the DePaul school record numerous times this season, including his season-best 18.95 meters (62'2.25") at the Marquette Invitational in early May.
