Men's Soccer Announces 2002 Schedule

CHICAGO - Head coach Craig Blazer announced today the regular season schedule for the 2002 men's soccer season. The Blue Demons begin the season with a pair of tournaments and don't play a home match until Oct. 5 against Memphis.
A quick glance at the 2002 slate reveals five teams that played in the 2001 NCAA Tournament, including Saint Louis, South Florida and UAB of Conference USA. In non-conference play, the Blue Demons will also face NCAA tourney participants Portland and UW-Milwaukee.
The squad opens the season Labor Day weekend at the four-team NIKE Portland Invitational. The Blue Demons tangle with Portland on Aug. 31 and Washington on Sept. 2. Their second in-season tournament will be in Milwaukee at the Panther Invitational. DePaul faces host UW-Milwaukee on Sept. 7 and UW-Green Bay on Sept. 8.
A week later, the team travels to Northern Illinois before starting the C-USA schedule at East Carolina on Sept. 20. The final week of September will see DePaul play at Charlotte, Illinois-Chicago and Drake.
The first home match of the year will be Oct. 5 against C-USA member Memphis. The Tigers will be the first of three straight home matches as the Blue Demons host IPFW on Oct. 13 and Cincinnati on Oct. 16. October finishes with home matches against Loyola-Chicago and TCU before traveling to Saint Louis on Oct. 30.
Two of the final three regular season games are home as DePaul hosts South Florida and Marquette on Nov. 3 and 6, respectively. The regular-season finale will be at Louisville on Nov. 9. The annual Conference USA Tournament will be in St. Louis, Nov. 14-17.
