Blue Demons Fall at Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. - The DePaul women's soccer team lost Friday afternoon, 2-0, at Northwestern in the 2002 opener for both squads. A stingy Northwestern defense held the Blue Demons to just five shots on the afternoon while two second-half goals put them over the top.
After a scoreless first half, Northwestern's Nell Compernolle found the net off of a rebound from an Ashleigh Garmon shot. The first score at in the 53rd minute put the Wildcats up for good. She was followed by Tabitha Lowey at 70:54 on a header off of a free kick to seal the win.
The Blue Demons managed just five shots and had their best opportunity when Julianne Sitch dribbled past a pair of Northwestern defenders before Susie McCreery made the save with just over 20 minutes left in the match.
Up next for DePaul is a Sunday afternoon match at IPFW. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. in Ft. Wayne. The home opener is scheduled for Sept. 13 against Drury.
