UAB Holds Off DePaul

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB used runs late in the first half and early in the second period to beat DePaul 77-71 on Wednesday at Bartow Arena.
Quemont Greer had 22 points and 15 rebounds to lead DePaul (14-10, 6-7) while Sam Hoskin added 16 points and Delonte Holland 10 for the Blue Demons.
Eric Bush scored 13 points and Demario Eddins added 10 for UAB (16-8, 8-5 Conference USA). The Blazers have won four of their past five games.
DePaul led 27-25 late in the first half, but UAB went on a 22-2 run that gave the Blazers a 47-32 lead at the 17:53 mark in the second half. Kennedy and freshman Richard Jones had two baskets each to spark the UAB run.
The UAB lead was 53-39 when DePaul went on a 12-0 run to close to within two points. A few moments later, a 3-pointer by Greer cut UAB's lead to 57-56, but DePaul couldn't draw even down the stretch.
Eddins scored all 10 of his points in the second half and hit three key driving layups to keep UAB ahead in the closing minutes.
Hoskin scored 12 straight points for DePaul to keep the Blue Demons close. But Bush hit 3-of-4 free throws in the final 34 seconds to seal the win for UAB.
DePaul will now play its final road game of the season on Saturday when it travels to Charlotte for a 2 p.m. contest on WCKG (105.9 FM) in Chicago.
