CHICAGO – The DePaul track and field teams will be looking for better weather this weekend when they travel to Macomb, Ill., for the 14th annual Lee Calhoun Memorial Invitational. Last weekend, the men’s and women’s track and field teams battled the cold in the first outdoor meet of the season at the Chicagoland Championships.
All of the action will take place at Hanson Field on the campus of Western Illinois University. The meet is named after for Western Illinois track and field coach Lee Calhoun. He was the head coach at Western Illinois from 1980 until his untimely death in 1989. The two-time Olympic medal winner in the high hurdles was the only man to ever win the event in consecutive Olympics. Calhoun was an internationally known track and field figure, who was inducted into the inaugural class of the United States Track and Field Hall of Fame.
Last weekend, both track teams started the outdoor season on the right foot with the women’s team winning the Chicagoland Championships and the men’s team finishing second. On the women’s side, Diana Runnels and Leah Rygh led DePaul with two first’s each while the team nabbed six first-place finishes. The men’s squad posted top three finishes in eight events while claiming first in six times. Rashard Deleston tallied a pair of top three finishes with a first in the long jump and third in the 200-meter dash.
Following this weekend’s action, the Blue Demons will be in action again with members traveling to the Kansas Relays and Elmhurst Relays.
