Track and Field Tunes Up for C-USA Championships

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The DePaul track and field teams participated in the Dr. Keeler Invitational at North Central College on Friday. A number of personal bests were set as the Blue Demons prepared for next week’s Conference USA Championship in Charlotte.
Gavin Kennedy and Will Lazicki led the men’s team with a first-place finish and school record, respectively. Kennedy won the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:53.38. Lazicki broke the school record in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:50.27. The former mark was one of the oldest in the DePaul recordbooks as it was set by Carl Webb in 1984. He held it with a time of 1:51.54.
Cornelius Sams set a season-best time in the 110-meter hurdles at 15.23. He finished tied for seventh in the event. In the 3000-meter steeplechase, Kim Trieu was 28th with a season-best time of 9:54.12.
On the women’s side, Leah Rygh won the 1500-meter run at 4:32.97 while three Blue Demons placed in the top six in the hammer throw. Susan Stoffel was third with a distance of 44.72 meters while Megan Greeley placed fourth (42.78m) and Jeana LeRoy was sixth (39.88m).
The 2003 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship begin on Thursday, May 15 and run for three days. For more on the league championships, click here.
