Track and Field Participates in Dr. Keeler Invitational

CHICAGO – The DePaul track and field teams tune up for the 2003 Conference USA Outdoor Championships with the Dr. Keeler Invitational at North Central College this weekend. Next weekend, the team travels to Charlotte, N.C. for the annual league championships.
On Thursday, throwers Megan Greeley, Michael Horrigan, Jarrod Jahnke, Jeana LeRoy, Susan Stoffel and Robert Reed will compete in the men’s and women’s hammer throw competitions. The remaining DePaul contingent will be in action on Friday.
Recapping the Central Collegiate Conference Championships
Leah Rygh and Megan Greeley improved their own school records in the 1,500-meter run and javelin last weekend at the 78th annual Central Collegiate Conference Championships at Western Michigan.
Rygh bettered her own record with a winning time of 4:32.58 in the 1,500-meter run. She set the record earlier this season with a time of 4:33.75 at the Lee Calhoun Invitational on April 12. Greeley set a new school mark in the javelin with a distance of 45.73 meters. In 2001, the senior set the school record with a measurement of 44.91 meters.
Susan Stoffel won the discus throw competition while Dee Moore earned a pair of top three finishes. Stoffel posted a winning distance of 39.94 meters while Moore was second in the 100 and third in the 200-meter dash. She notched a season-best time of 12.25 in the 100 and 25.59 in the 200.
On the men’s side, DePaul placed fifth out of eight teams. Eastern Michigan took the team title while host Western Michigan was second. Larry Inanga was the to Blue Demons finisher by winning the 400-meter dash. His time of 47.62 established a season-best mark for DePaul. Siddiqu Muhammad finished fifth with a time of 49.05.
Kim Trieu Selected to NCAA Leadership Conference
Kim Trieu was one of 302 student-athletes selected to the seventh annual NCAA Leadership Conference at the end of this month. The senior cross country/track and field athlete will discuss with his peers some of the key issues in intercollegiate athletics and enhance their leadership skills.
The five-day event will take place May 25-29 at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort and the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The 2003 NCAA Leadership Conference is one of the largest non-competitive gatherings of NCAA student-athletes. The student-athlete leaders were selected from a total of 1,172 nominations that were submitted by college and university officials who have NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills programs at their schools.
A year ago, women’s soccer player Shana Mills represented DePaul University at the 2002 conference.
