CHICAGO --Two goals in each half by four different players propelled the DePaul Blue Demons over the visiting Houston Cougars, 4-0, on Friday afternoon at Wish Field. Lauren Spacht scored the first goal of the match and then assisted the next three scores to lead the Blue Demons.
Spacht and Jennifer Dyer opened up a 2-0 lead in just over a three-minute span in the first half. Erin Walter found Spacht and she scored past Houston keeper Nicole Oliver at 22:25 before Spacht found Dyer for the second goal at 25:37. Walter's eighth assist of the season set a new single-season program record.
Lea Hill found the net for the ninth time this season to open the second half. Spacht started the play from the right sideline and found Julianne Sitch, who flipped it over to Hill at the top of the box. Hill dribbled to her right and fired a shot past a diving Oliver at 48:41.
Walter capped the scoring for the Blue Demons in the 64th minute. Spacht fed Walter and she broke free from a pair of Houston (4-11-0, 1-5-0 C-USA) defenders to notch her fourth goal of the season.
Lindsey Deason and Cara LaRocca combined for the shutout and four saves while DePaul (7-7-1, 3-4-1 C-USA) outshot Houston, 18-8.
The Blue Demons host TCU on Sunday afternoon at Wish Field. Kickoff is set for Noon followed by the DePaul men at 2:30 against Wisconsin.
