Men's Track and Field Finishes Third at Chicagoland Championships

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The DePaul men’s track and field team finished third overall in the annual Chicagoland Championships at North Central College this weekend. The Blue Demons finished with 95 points while host North Central won the 15-team meet with 171 points.
Jarrod Jahnke notched a pair of top five finishes in the hammer throw and discus competition. He won the hammer with a distance of 55.48 meters (182’) and was followed by teammate Rob Reed in third place at 46.58 meters (152’10”). Jahnke came back in the discus and took fourth place with a throw of 44.78 meters (146’11”).
Jamal Cornelious, Larry Inanga and Siddiqu Muhammad won the 100-meter dash, 400-meter dash and the 400-meter hurdles, respectively. Cornelious posted a time of 10.92 in the 100 to lead the sprinters while Inanga won the 400 in 47.71. Muhammad’s time of 53.61 in the 400-meter hurdles was also the best of the afternoon. Rick Britton’s time of 15:32.49 in the 5,000-meter run put him in fourth place.
Rashard Deleston led the Blue Demons in the jumps with a pair of top four finishes. He took second place in the long jump with a distance of 7.08 meters (23’2.75”). In the triple jump, Deleston placed fourth at 13.85 meters (45’5.25”).
DePaul’s relay team of Mike Scafide, Muhammad, Doug Bohr and Inanga won the 4x400-meter relay in 3:14.98. The 4x100-meter relay team of Cornelious, Bohr, Donnie Smith and Deleston earned a second-place finish with a time of 42.19.
North Central won the team title with 171 points with Lewis in second place with 160 points and the Blue Demons in third. Up next for DePaul is next weekend’s Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.
