Blue Demons Compete at Drake Relays and Big Ten Previews

CHICAGO – The women’s outdoor track and field team wrapped up a busy weekend competing at the Drake Relays and Big Ten Preview Invitational this weekend. At the Drake Relays the 16-year-old 4.x200-meter relay broken on Friday afternoon.
In Des Moines, Iowa at the Drake Relays, DePaul entered a pair of relay teams. The 4x200-meter relay team of Dee Moore, Mary Hodges, Marissa Petersen and Diana Runnels set a new school mark with a time of 1:40.66. The former record of 1:41.24 stood since 1988.
On Saturday, the sprint medley relay team of Dee Moore, Mary Hodges, Diana Runnels and Leah Rygh nearly set a new record while finishing in sixth place with a time of 4:00.65. Moore, Petersen, Runnels and Rygh set a new school record to open the outdoor season at the Raleigh Relays in a time of 4:00.07.
At the Big Ten Preview Invitational at Purdue, Tammy Burris led the Blue Demons with a pair of top five finishes. She took fifth place in both the hammer and shot put. In the hammer, she finished with a distance of 45.00 meters (147’8”) while she tallied a distance of 12.50 meters (41’0.25”) in the shot put.
Jeana LeRoy’s distance of 12.79 meters (41’11.5”) gave her fourth place in the shot put while Marlene Key finished in fifth place in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:25.55.
Up next for the Blue Demons is next weekend's Butler Twilight in Indianapolis, Ind., on Friday and Saturday. The Butler meet will be the final tune-up for the Conference USA Outdoor Championships on May 13-15 in Louisville, Ky.
