Men's Track and Field Excels at Two Weekend Meets

CHICAGO - The men's outdoor track and field team finished the weekend competing at the Drake Relays and Big Ten Preview Invitational. The Blue Demons sent a pair of relay teams to the Drake Relays while they posted five top five finishes at the Big Ten Preview Invitational.
In Des Moines, Iowa at the Drake Relays, DePaul entered a pair of relay teams in the 4x400 and sprint medley events. In the 4x400-meter relay the team of Siddiqu Muhammad, Donnie Smith, Larry Inanga and Doug Bohr finished sixth in their heat with a time of 3:14.59. Saturday's sprint medley relay team of Jamal Cornelious, Muhammad, Inanga and Richard Byrne finished eighth overall with a time of 3:27.00.
At the Big Ten Preview Invitational at Purdue, Ben Cooke led the Blue Demons with a pair of top four finishes. He took third place in the 1500-meter run and fourth in the 800 meters. Cooke finished in 3:59.74 in the 1500 meters and 1:57.90 in the 800-meter run. Rick Britton finished second in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:05.24 while Kim Trieu and Anthony Becknek finished second and third, respectively, in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Trieu was second in 9:34.10 while Becknek was third at 9:38.41.
Up next for the Blue Demons is next weekend's Butler Twilight in Indianapolis, Ind., on Friday and Saturday. The Butler meet will be the final tune-up for the Conference USA Outdoor Championships on May 13-15 in Louisville, Ky.
