DePaul Takes Three Events at Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Jarrod Jahnke, Larry Inanga and Kim Trieu earned first-place finishes for the DePaul track and field team at the Notre Dame Spring Opener on Saturday. Jahnke won the hammer throw, Inanga was first in the 200-meter dash and Trieu took first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. It was the second outdoor meet of the season for the men's track and field team.
Jahnke won the hammer throw competition with a distance of 58.03 meters. He outdistanced Mike March of Central Michigan at 57.47 meters.
Inanga's time of 21.59 was the fastest of the day in the 200-meter dash. Western Michigan's Darius Johnson was second at 21.68 out of a total of 18 competitors.
Trieu won the steeplechase with a winning time of 9:51.12. Teammate Anthony Becknek was second in the event at 9:55.45.
Other top finishers for the Blue Demons were Doug Bohr, Richard Byrne, Jamal Cornelious, Tom Kacprzynski and Siddiqu Muhammad. Kacprzynski placed third in the 400-meter dash at 50.71 followed by Bohr in fifth with a time of 51.58. Byrne and Muhammad placed fourth in the 800-meter run and 400-meter hurdles. Byrne posted a time of 2:00.48 while Muhammad was fourth at 56.20. Cornelious placed fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.04.
Up next for DePaul is the Chicagoland Championships at North Central College. The two-day meet takes place Friday and Saturday in Naperville.
