INDIANAPOLIS – The DePaul women’s track and field team competed at the Butler Twilight over the weekend in the preparation for the annual Conference USA Championships. The Blue Demons battled the competition and the weather in the two-day meet hosted by Butler University.
The throwers led the way for the Blue Demons over the weekend. Tammy Burris posted a pair of top five finishes in the discus and hammer while Jeana LeRoy took fourth in the shot put. Burris was fourth in the discus with a distance of 38.35 meters (125’10”) while taking fifth in the hammer with a season-best mark of 45.66 meters (149’10”). LeRoy’s team-best distance of 12.92 meters (42’4.75”) was good enough for fourth place.
DaShara Wells finished in a tie for fourth place with a distance of 10.47 meters (34’4.5”) in the triple jump.
Leah Rygh led the running events with a third-place finish in the 1500 meters. She placed third with a time of 4:37.15. The 4x100-meter relay team of Dee Moore, Marissa Petersen, Mary Hodges and Diana Runnels finished in fourth overall with a time of 48.08.
Up next for the Blue Demons is the annual Conference USA Championships. The three-day meet is set for May 13-15, at Cardinal Park in Louisville, Ky.
