Track and Field Opens NCAA Regional

BATON ROUGE, La. – Jarrod Jahnke and Larry Inanga finished the 2004 outdoor track and field season on Friday at the NCAA Mid-East Regional.  Jahnke placed 16th in the men’s hammer throw while Inanga was 18th overall in the 400-meter dash prelims.

Jahnke finished the afternoon with a distance of 56.90 meters (186’8”) to place 16th overall.  Dan Taylor of Ohio State won the event with a Mid-East Regional record of 68.18 meters (223’8”).

Inanga placed 18th overall in the 400-meter prelims with a time of 47.18.  The top nine finishers qualified for Saturday’s final led by LSU’s Kelly Willie with a prelim-best time of 45.12.  Inanga’s time was a season-best mark topping the season-opening time of 47.23 at the Raleigh Relays.

DePaul's fourth NCAA Regional qualifier, Leah Rygh, withdrew from the meet earlier this week.  Rygh won the Conference USA Championship in the 1500 meters and qualified for the NCAA Regional on May 15.

"After talking with my coach, we both decided that immediate rest and recovery are in my best interest," said Rygh.  "I have been training through a lot of fatigue for a couple of weeks and immediate rest is what my body needs."

Erin Moffett makes her bid for the NCAA Championships in the 3000-meter steeplechase on Saturday afternoon.  The top five student-athletes in each event advance to the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas.
