CHICAGO – DePaul women’s basketball coach Doug Bruno announced today that Rachael Carney and Missy Mitidiero will transfer to DePaul and play for the Blue Demons beginning in the 2005-06 season. The two student-athletes will sit out the 2004-05 season under NCAA transfer guidelines.

Mitidiero joins the Blue Demons after playing her freshman season at the University of Illinois. She saw action in 12 games during the 2003-04 season, averaging seven minutes per game. Mitidiero played high school basketball at Marian Catholic, which finished second in the state and No. 18 in the nation in 2003. She was named one of the “Top 10 Point Guards in the Nation for Class of 2003” by the Chicago Sun-Times and was a first team All-State honoree. Mitidiero was a high school teammate of current DePaul women’s basketball player Maureen Simon.
The Blue Demons are coming off a 23-7 season that saw them lead the nation in scoring and make their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance. The team finished the season ranked No. 25 in the ESPN/USA Today/WBCA Coaches poll after being ranked as high as No. 11. DePaul will play the 2004-05 season in Conference USA before moving to the BIG EAST Conference in 2005-06.
