COLLEGE STATION, Texas – DePaul freshmen Anthony Becknek and Carrie Moffett competed at the USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend.  Becknek took fourth in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase while Moffett placed eighth in the women’s 5,000 meters.

Originally scheduled for Friday night, the women’s 5,000 meters was moved to Saturday following rain and thunderstorms.  Moffett finished the event in 18:58.70 for eighth place.  Caitlin Martinez of New Balance Pacific won the race in 16:10.60.
Becknek turned in a fourth-place finish on Sunday evening in the steeplechase with a time of 9:32.75.  Oregon’s Kyle Alcorn won the event in 9:10.37.  The top two finishers in each event advanced to the IAAF World Junior Championships in July.
DePaul head coach Gordon Thomson will be making the trip to Italy as part of the USA Track and Field coaching staff.  He is a member of the men’s staff and will work with the top junior distance runners in the United States.  The world meet takes place in Grosseto, Italy, July 13-18 for athletes age 19 and under.
