Joe Ahearn Promoted to Assistant Men's Soccer Coach

CHICAGO – DePaul men's soccer coach Craig Blazer announced that Joe Ahearn has been promoted to a full-time assistant position after volunteering for the past two seasons. Ahearn, a former men's soccer student-athlete at DePaul, has helped turn around the program as the Blue Demons play their final season in Conference USA.
"Joe's promotion from volunteer to a full-time position is a result of the many successful contributions and committment he has made to the program," said Blazer. "He is very qualified, works extremely hard and attracts and motivates student-athletes whoe also uphold the principles of DePaul University."
Ahearn played at DePaul from 1996-00 and earned third team All-Conference USA honors as a senior. He played in 67 matches over his four-year career and graduated from DePaul in 2000. Since joining the staff as a volunteer assistant, he has helped the Blue Demons become one of the most improved teams in the nation.
Prior to returning to his alma mater, Ahearn worked with the United States Soccer Federation as an Equipment Operations Coordinator. He traveled throughout the world while working with various U.S. National Teams, including the Korea/Japan 2002 World Cup and the U-20 World Championships in Argentina. Ahearn holds a USSF National "B" Coaching License and serves on the DePaul Soccer Alumni Committee.
"I am very excited about the opportunity to work full-time with Coach Blazer and the DePaul soccer program," said Ahearn. "I am looking forward to getting started in August and am confident that we will leave a mark in Conference USA this fall."
The Blue Demons open the 2004 campaign on Wednesday, Sept. 1 against the Loyola Ramblers. Kick off is set for 3 p.m. at Wish Field on DePaul's Lincoln Park campus.
