MILWAUKEE – Julianne Sitch came through in a big way on Sunday afternoon scoring the game-winner with two minutes left in the second overtime period. The Blue Demons trailed 2-1 until Lea Hill tied the match in the 70th minute before Sitch’s heroics put DePaul over the top, 3-2.
The Blue Demons got on the board first when Lauren Spacht scored her third goal in as many games at 3:05. She has now scored a goal in three consecutive matches.
The Panthers answered four minutes later when Sarah Freidel beat Blue Demon keeper Lindsey Deason. Andrea Kramer and Elizabeth Chudy assisted the goal at 7:02. Niether team could find the net for the rest of the half and the two teams went to the break tied at 1-1.
Just over two minutes into the second half, UW-Milwaukee (1-5-1) took the lead when Kramer scored at 48:53. Freidel was credited with the assist.
As she’s done all season, Hill came off the bench to give DePaul (3-3-0) a spark in the second half. After entering the game in the 66th minute, she tied the match at 2-2 on her fifth goal of the season at 70:21.
Hill’s score was the final goal of the second half and the two teams went to overtime. In the first extra period, neither team could score and it looked that way towards the end of the second overtime.
With the clock winding down, Sitch took control and scored her third goal of the season to win the match.
DePaul hosts a pair of games at Wish Field next weekend. The Blue Demons take on Northern Iowa on Friday afternoon before opening Conference USA action against Marquette on Sunday.
