DePaul Picked to Win BIG EAST Regular Season Softball Title

The Blue Demons earned eight first-place votes en route to being tabbed as the preseason favorite. DePaul joins the conference following a 2005 campaign in which the Blue Demons captured the Conference USA Tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Division I Women’s College World Series before falling to, eventual national champion
Notre Dame has earned the second place slot in the preseason poll after four consecutive seasons of being the number one pick. The defending conference regular-season champion earned two first place votes. Last season, ND earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship, winning two games and dropping a pair of games during regional action against Northwestern.

The seventh spot in this year’s preseason polls belongs to Villanova. The Wildcats finished last season with a fourth place finish and a 38-25 overall record.
The 2006 softball season will begin on Feb. 10 with four league teams in action. BIG EAST Conference play will start on Feb. 25 with eight teams facing off against conference foes.
