Blue Demons Slip Past TCU

ROSEMONT, Ill. – It wasn’t pretty but DePaul survived a shaky night from the floor and posted a 64-62 victory over TCU on Tuesday night at the Allstate Arena.

The victory moved the Blue Demons to 14-5 overall and 6-2 in Conference USA. The overall start is the program’s best since the 1986-87 season and the league record is the best since the 1991-92 campaign. TCU fell to 13-9 and 3-5.

Quemont Greer led the Blue Demons, who were 2-20 from three-point range and 20-31 from the free throw line, with 19 points and 11 rebounds while LeVar Seals added 13 points. Sammy Mejia grabbed eight rebounds and dished out a team-high four assists.

DePaul took a 61-57 lead after Jamal Nichols went 1-of-2 at the free-throw line with 3:30 left in the game. Femi Ibikunle then had a basket for TCU to cut the Blue Demons lead to 61-59. After Greer made two free throws, Judson Stubbs came back with a 3-pointer to get the Horned Frogs to 63-62 with 1:23 left.

With 30 seconds left and DePaul up, TCU had a chance to take the lead, but DePaul's Sammy Mejia blocked Corey Santee's 15-footer. At the other end, Greer made 1-of-2 free throws to make it 64-62.

Marcus Shropshire missed a 3-pointer for TCU (13-9, 3-5) with 1.1 seconds left in the game.

DePaul has won six of it’s last seven games.

Shropshire scored 17 points and Aaron Curtis added 13 points for TCU, who has lost four in a row.

The Blue Demons will be in action again on Sunday when they travel to Saint Louis to face the Billikens at 1 p.m. The contest will be televised by Comcast SportsNet and broadcast on WAIT (850 AM) in the Windy City.
