Becknek and Warner Compete at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA – DePaul’s Anthony Becknek and Donnie Warner competed on Thursday night at the 111th annual Penn Relays.  The duo turned in a pair of solid performances at one of the country’s most historic track and field events.

Becknek opened the evening by placing third in the collegiate 3,000-meter steeplechase.  His time of 9:12.31 was a season and personal best for the sophomore and was just 14 seconds off the 21-year old school record.  Jim Fox set the DePaul record in 1984 with a time of 8:58.14.  Jeff Day of Tennessee won the steeplechase with a time of 9:03.65.

Warner concluded DePaul’s action at the Penn Relays by finishing 23rd in the 10,000 meters.  The senior also turned in a personal and season-best time of 30:40.44.

DePaul’s track and field teams continue the weekend of action with the Drake Relays on Friday and Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa, and the Redbird Invitational on Saturday in Normal, Ill.
