Track & Field Women Top Personal Bests

CHICAGO – Following the Penn Relays of last Thursday, the rest of the Blue Demon women’s squad finished up the triad of competition this weekend at the 96th Drake Relays and the Redbird Invitational. Neither meet featured team scoring.
The Drake Relays, which took place in Des Moines, Iowa, this past Friday and Saturday, held a field of over 8,000 participants. DePaul traveled only six women to take part in the festivities.
Kayla Burks was the lone individual competitor for the Blue Demons, notching an 11th place finish in high jump. Burks cleared a height of 1.65 meters.
In the team events, the 4x400 relay team finished 29th and recorded a season best time in the race. Marissa Petersen, LaShunta Sanders, Erica Scott, and Courtney Grand Pre worked together to cross the line in 3:58.14. This time surpassed the previous best of 4:03.15.
On Saturday in Normal, Illinois, DePaul student-athletes took part in the Redbird Invitational, hosted by Illinois State University, which included teams from around the area.
Carrie Moffett continued her impressive outdoor season by marking a personal best in the 1500 meter run. With a fourth place finish, Moffett cruised to a time of 4:44.00 in the qualifiers, and a 4:47.50 finish in the finals. In the 2004 outdoor season, Moffett posted a previous best of 4:47.63.
Both DaShara Wells and Emily Prettyman followed in kind, each tallying personal bests in their respective events.
Wells placed seventh in the 400 meter hurdles, clocking a 1:06.89 finish in the qualifiers and a 1:10.31 time in the finals. This exceeded her 2004 time of 1:07.55.
In the 5000 meter run, Prettyman displayed her endurance, notching a 19:00.00 time in the qualifiers and improving to a 18:50.60 finals finish for eighth place. This topped her previous best by almost 15 seconds.
The Blue Demons will continue the season in Indianapolis, Indiana, to participate in the Stan Lyons Twilight on May 5-6. The meet is hosted by Butler University but will take place at Indiana University Michael A. Carroll Track and Field Stadium.
